CENTRES AND INSTITUTES IN EDUCATION
Procedures for assigning teaching of courses in Cross-Faculty Inquiry in Education (CCFI) and Early Childhood Education (ECED)
- CCFI and ECED courses are normally staffed by instructors who are already members of Departments in the Faculty of Education or who have been seconded to the Teacher Education Office. These appointments are made in consultation with the relevant Department Head and (for some ECED appointments) with the Teacher Education Office.
- Responsibility for staffing CCFI and ECED courses lies with the Directors of CCFI and IECER in consultation with their Advisory Committees, and the relevant Department Head, with final approval of all hiring from the Dean’s Office.
- CCFI and ECED hire instructors based on qualifications that include appropriate academic and/or professional background and relevant experience.
Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty and Sessional Faculty with Continuing Status:
- By October 31 the CCFI Director will issue a call to all members of Departments in the Faculty of Education asking for expressions of interest in teaching (in the following Summer and Winter Sessions) the required CCFI courses 501, 502, and 601, and/or proposing a graduate course of cross-faculty interest in keeping with CCFI’s mandate as a catalyst for inquiry that reaches across the Faculty of Education. The IECER Director will issue a similar call to members of the Faculty of Education with expressed interests in Early Childhood Education.
- In November, in consultation with the CCFI or IECER Advisory Committee, the Director will prepare a draft of courses and teaching assignments and will finalize these in consultation with individual faculty members and their respective Department Heads.
- Final course assignments will be made first to tenured/tenure track faculty members and then to Sessional faculty members with continuing status whose academic home is CCFI.
For Sessional Lecturers, Visiting Professors, Postdoctoral Teaching Fellows, Adjunct Professors, Noted Scholars and Other Qualified Individuals:
- Assignments to teach a CCFI or ECED course are based upon academic and professional qualifications, relevant experiences, demonstrated quality and effectiveness of work performed, programmatic needs and availability of the instructor.
- Available courses (including those for off-campus cohort programs with varying start dates) will be posted on the CCFI or IECER websites for a minimum 2-week period.
- Unexpected course additions will be posted unless they are the result of unforeseeable events.
For Sessional Lecturers only:
- Sessional lecturers are appointed in accordance with the Agreement of Conditions of Appointment for Sessional and Part-time Faculty Members between the University and the Faculty Association.
- Sessional lecturers who are qualified have a right to reappointment based on the Centre’s / Institute’s need, and on performance in teaching in courses they have taught in the previous 12 months.
- Application for current Sessional Lecturers will include:
- A letter of application or indication of preferences noting availability, and desired course/s.
- A current CV including relevant educational background, teaching and research experience, and training, publications, and/or awards and qualifications for teaching.
- Application for new Sessional Lecturers will include:
